The Dolphins picked up their first win of the season but in unfortunate circumstances which as a result left Abbots Langley bottom of the table.
With Abbots Langley deservedly leading 2-0 with wins for Phil Evans and Ken Stonebridge over Ralph Taylor and Ricky Tarani respectively, Mick Lowens injured his left leg in a valiant attempt to retrieve a drop shot from an out of sorts Kevin Williams who was 2 games to 1 up at the time. Sadly for Mick the injury proved too bad for him to carry on with the match, and to add insult to injury (no pun intended) he had to sit out his remaining single and doubles rubber too.
The injury put a dampener on the whole evening but for the record, Ken went on to beat Kevin in 4 tight games, Ricky beat Phil in an exciting 5th game decider and then Kevin finally managed to get a bit of form together to comfortably defeat Phil 3 straight. With the other two matches awarded by default to the Dolphins, they ran out 5-3 winners but it was a fairly hollow victory in the end and there weren’t many celebrations from the Dolphins.
