Hi Stuart,
If it helps any the tournament could be rescheduled to be played on a single Sunday down at Watford Grammar School... They have the potential to use 12 tables down there... lighting is good etc...
I would have to check availability, but I am sure the costs would be minimal...

Hi Guys, Single day doesnt work for tournaments with so many events. Especially if someone reaches the latter stages of three or four events - the day can come to a complete halt based on one or two players.
The County tournament is a joke and recieves poor entry based on the above. I remember reaching three finals one year and they couldnt get singles, doubles and mixed moving along. I played the singles final at 10:30 (with the bar staff and the umpire the only people to watched) having got there at 11am! They go on so late and noboby stays for the finals which are supposed to be the hightlight.
Still think the best format is groups on qualifying nights to a finals night. Staged finals nights give any event more kudos.

Well... good points Glen, although a well co-ordinated set of events could minimise the problem of one player holding up proceedings if held on a single day...
Personally having the tournament on a single day does give it a 'bigger occasion' feel, whereas turning up in the cold on multiple nights seems a bit disjointed to me, and if you're not playing that particular night you can miss some matches you might otherwise have liked to have watched.
Also the Staged Finals night could still happen on another night as you say Glen away from the groups and initial rounds... that is always good for promoting the sport, and getting a decent number of spectators.

hey! 12 tables at Watford Grammar? Maybe the tournament could be played there next year?
Multiple nights does give a disjointed feel and it is sometimes interesting watching other matches.
A finals night could still be held at Queens.
As Chris says it would need to be well co ordinated but maybe Dave Edwards with his,i assume, knowledge of tournaments, could be consulted.

Glen
The Herts County has changed over the last few years and is played over two days.
John Barnes and myself work hard to ensure that the events with potential clashes are kept apart, with events played to a finish rather than the finals being left to the end. Also the two Veterans events are also played on the Saturday to a finish so that they do not clash with the following day. The only slight difficulty last year was that the Ladies singles, Veterans Ladies singles and Ladies doubles involved virtually the same players.
I hope you and Chris and others decide to enter this year but be quick, the tournament is on the 13/14th February.
