At tonight's Committee Meeting you may have seen that Advertising was on the Agenda (was I the only one to see that?). Stuart quite rightly asked what was happening with regard to advertisement revenue (if any) that was being raised via the Blog?
Ok, to answer that question... nothing right now... We might have invoiced Thorntons for their regular handbook fee we might not I don't know to be honest, however the question raised by Stuart raises a few others.
I have purposefully not pursued any real revenue generating opportunities so far for advertising for a few reasons, the main one being that until we had a decent level of readers and participants who would want to advertise... there has to be a benefit from paying for an advert... it is a two way street right? Advertise and hopefully some new customers come your way...
So now we have some results, some history of traffic (visitors) to the site, we now have hard evidence that the site is being used... this is very positive when approaching anyone for sponsorship of any type. So perhaps now we can start to introduce the possibility to Businesses, Table tennis enthusiasts or even parents if they would like to make a contribution to our sport....
But... and it is a big BUT... what would we do with the money generated? A question asked by Stuart and one that we can now pass on to the good Blog readers directly. If we are going to ask for money, then whoever is contributing will want to know what the money is going to be used for... I would for sure!! Of course a seperate account of the money generated would be kept. It is not the league's money... it is Table Tennis development in Watford money... the other activities are funded already, this is extra money to be spent in a way that adds to what we are doing and helps to build new things that might not have otherwise been possible.
OK, first how can people get involved? First lets look at the 4 levels of sponsorship... Platinum £1000, Gold £500, Silver £125, Bronze £50. Different levels means different amounts of exposure. Ok, so they are the options.... Clearly the larger amounts are targeted at businesses, but the smaller amounts could be donations to cover for example the Table tennis balls for Junior practice sessions or specialist coaching with an acknowledgement on the sponsorship page... let's be creative and think out of the box here!!!
Now... what can you do? We need two things (1) Come up with some really good uses for the money that will help to develop Table Tennis in the Watford area... so come on every one let's have some fantastic contributions on this one. (2) Myself (Internet Power Systems ), Glen Wilkes ( Maximise ) , Roger Pyle ( Phoenix Office Products ) all run our own businesses, we are not the only ones however, Russell Davies of WWCC 'B' has a business providing building, extentions, Kitchen and Bathroom refurbishment, painting and decorating... (actually he is working on my mums house at the moment) and there are many more of us I know who have our own businesses. Not only could we make a contribution, but also we know other business owners, restaurants, shops, people who thrive on the custom from the people in Watford who might be happy to support our local league if asked by a good friend or satisfied customer. Why not make a small donation if you run a business and let everyone know in the league what you do. I'm always interested to hear what people are doing and I'm sure others are the same.
This is a chance for all of us to get involved, but remember... no one was ever remembered for what 'they were going to do' only by 'what they did do'.... so come on let's get some good ideas for how we can develop Table tennis right here right now... and then let's get the money to do it... Don't wait for others to do it... you do it !!!
The players in the Watford league today have a real chance to make a difference to Table Tennis in our area... working together we can make this league one that others look to for inspiration and direction about regenerating Table Tennis fortunes. I've created a new Blog category for Advertisement and Sponsorship to help keep all related posts easily accessible and highlight those people willing to get involved.
